Until now, I've had to use Sally Hansen's Big Peel Off Base Coat. While I won't say this product is bad, because it does do it's job, it just...has room for improvement. I'd taken to using a coat of it and then another base coat just for it to last longer than twelve hours.
Fortunately, thanks to the power of the internet, I didn't have to do much footwork to find an alternative. Actually, I didn't have to do any, because it's through one of the videos on her channel that I even realized peel off base coat was a thing.
(For those curious, it's a YouTube channel run by simplynailogical. Her videos are overall informative but also entertaining.)
I had to wait some, though. Ten bucks can be a bit to swallow on one bottle of something you've never tried.
So I waited until I found a deal! That's right, two bottles of base coat, two bottles of polish, for twenty bucks!
...I should really get rid of my 'sure this costs more but I get more' mentality.
Anyhoo! So far, I love the peel off base coat by UNT a lot better than I do Sally Hansen's. It's not streaky or clumpy, which is my biggest issue with Big.
Anyhoo. If you want a more 'in depth' comparison between the two, let me know in the comments below! ...Then again, I may do it anyway.
But yes. So far, for application purposes alone, I prefer UNT's Ready for Take Off much more than Big.
Now, with the two base coats I got, I also got a sort of glittery polish (with those larger glitters I haven't yet had the guts to try) and an absolutely gorgeous dark emerald green. It's the latter, rather than the former, that I've chosen to review. And I couldn't find any title for it word wise, but the code of the polish is SY055 Lacquer.
Which...is not very imaginative, but then again, I call my cat 'Cat' all the time.
The first layer left me with some trepidation. It was very thin, which left me with daymares of applying about fifty coats per nail to get it opaque enough. To my delight, the second coat was a lot closer to fully opaque than not. I would up using three coats, but that was more to be on the safe side. And they were all very thin, which is something I believe I like about this formula. It's hard to apply too much in one coat, which happens to be something I'm rather quite guilty of...
Now, normally, I wouldn't show my right hand. This is because I am right handed, and try as I might, my 'mirror' nail art usually ends up looking...more on the fail side of nail art. But I was a goof and didn't think to take a picture of the one coat until I'd already applied two.
The color is gorgeous, and as I've mentioned previous, green is my favorite color. This is definitely going into my repertoire of greens to use.
And since it's not too dark to be super contrasting against lighter colors, I found a design (thank you Google) to try to duplicate. This is my attempt:
(The silver is Finger Paint's Chromatic Creations. A pretty color, but a bit...well, it will take me some getting used to in application. It feels a bit water in terms of color, but thick in terms of formula.)
Anyway, thus far, both are a success. Beautiful color on the polish, lovely application on the base.
