So before I begin, I should probably put a disclaimer that I am by no means a professional nail...person. And while I know terms like 'holographic' and 'chromatic,' I'm not always 100% sure on what they are in practice...
However!
At Hot Topic today, I discovered they were having a BOGO on their adorable nail polishes. (Do they usually have in store BOGO on their polish? Is so!) If you've been to their stores in recent...amounts of time, you likely know what I'm talking about. The ones in the adorable skull bottles?
And, since the BOGO could be added to the currently redeemable Hot Cash...
Alas, no. I didn't get $60 worth of nail polish for $15. Although a part of me is tempted to go back...
No! Bad Cat! You don't have anywhere to store the polish you already have! (Well, I do, but small plastic tubs kinda makes it hard to remember what I already have...)
So! In addition to the Sailor Moon tank top I went there for, I got another tank top and two bottles of nail polish for a little bit more than the cost of the tank top.
Which made me feel so much better about spending full price at Sephora for my third gorgeous nail polish...
Anyhoo, I digress for about the billionth time!
The first color here is actually the last of the three I tested.Blackheart Beauty's Silver Glittery Starry NP is a lovely scatter holo. (I believe I used the term correctly!) The holos seem to be suspended in a clear base, however the density and primary color of the glitters give it a lovely blackish purple effect in the bottle.
I realize the picture isn't the greatest, but as of this moment my only way of approaching decent picture taking is with my Samsung phone...
It is applied over the next color I'll be talking about, Purple Shine from the same company. It only took one coat to get this density of glitter, which I think is darn spiffy.
On to Purple Shine. I'm a bit of a dweeb when it comes to putting on nail polish. My cuticles are nearly always a mess, a big no I hear, and I inevitably get a streaky first coat with a polish where it's probably really hard to get those. (Sadly, this is why I tend to stay away from cremes. They just...no matter what I do they...augh I am so creme polish deficient in terms of skill!) This one had very minimal streaking (which I attribute to the aforementioned lack of skill) and was more or less opaque with the first layer. However, I love this color to bits and wanted to see it in all it's glory. So, this one has two coats, and boy is it gorgeous. (Actually, looking at it, I believe the second picture only has one coat on the thumb and pinky at that stage.)
I can't find a review online about this polish at all, which is a shame because it's so lovely. This means, alas, I have no idea what kind of polish it is. It's definitely not creme, it has no shimmer, it's just straight up badass shiny purple.
As for the shade, in case your monitor doesn't show it, it is indeed purple. However, instead of leaning more toward the blue spectrum of colors, it looks like it was gently kissed by a nice red apple.
So far, I gotta say I'm in love with the two BhBs I've tried. There were a couple others I wanted to attempt a go at, but alas money is limited and at this point in time this is only a hobby!
(Besides. I've never tried large glitters, and that seems to be a lot of what they have. I dunno. What do you guys think?)
Okay, this last polish was a complete and total splurge. However, after saving money, and the previous nail polish being BOGO, I felt comfortable enough to splurge a little. Especially since this shade made me literally gasp out loud in the store.
I mean, I looked at everything. And there were definitely other shades that caught my eye. This one, however, I knew it had to come home with me.
And, before I begin, I do admit to having an incredible bias toward the color green. It's my favorite color!
So, looking at the bottle, the polish looks primarily black. On seeing the green tint, I knew I was doomed. (I have nearly black blue polishes and nearly black red and purple, but until now I've never even seen a nearly black green before.)
So far, since it is night time and I've only had the opportunity to test it under artificial lighting, I've only really seen the green. However, there appears to be a bit of a shimmery bronze in the mix as well. This will be looked at tomorrow!
As you can probably tell, this color is extremely pigmented. If not for my streaking problem, one coat probably would have done it. And with the cleanup, well. The only possible downside to this polish is how the green sort of stains when cleaning about with acetone. However, whether or not this is permanent, I do not know. Whether this is normal of this polish, I don't know that, either.
Overall, this color and brand is a total win for me. One of these days, I'll work out a scale system. But for now, it is just so pretty!
Overview:
I do not regret any of the three nail polishes I've purchased today. We've all been there, where the nail polish just doesn't seem to be...as exciting as you were hoping. But none of these failed in the impressed department.
Also, I currently can't speak of the longevity of this polish. I use a peel off base coat because I do enjoy doing my nails more often than I probably should. It calms me. It keeps me zen.
(It also sometimes gets me compliments when I eventually do venture forth to the realm of OutSide.)
If you've read this, thank you so very much. It's nice to not just be talking to myself!
Many Adorations,
Cat
